Two points, from an American:

The majority of Americans are dumb, but they live in the middle of the country and the south (not the coasts) and many people like me, have never seen them. Unfortunately, they give us a bad rep.

It isn't just Brown, but most British people I've met who have a superiority complex. Yes, there was a time you were a major world player with an incredible navy, but now you are to America what Ren is to Stimpy. Most jabs are directed at the U.S. out of jealousy and insecurity. After all, we took their government, language, food and the best parts of their culture and made them a hundred times better (the consitution, American cinema/literature, the Puritan work ethic, equal opportunity, etc.)

Sure, I think the current administration is made up of criminals, and a lot of stupid Americans have much to answer for. But most Americans I've met are intelligent, kind, open-minded people and I'm proud to say I'm a patriot.
