The host was just being a smart/dumbass. I used to listen to the Smothers Brothers all the time.

The host is Tommy Smothers, whose little schtick is to be a little slow, when he actually has a genius IQ.

Such a great band, I see a resemblance of them in The Hives :) Didn't know how look alike they actually were in there play style The bass player was the only one left with a functional instrument he had this look on him; 'don't take my bass'

Tommy is not being an asshole.....He's just being ....Tommy ! sorta clued out and one step behind everything. Ya gotta know who and how the Smothers Brothers were to get the hang of their "style" of comedy. It was a heady time of ultra left and extreem concervative right with most of America ( and because we saw the shows, Canada) stuck in the middle. Funny if you know the " WTF ??? " type of comedy.
