some of these things are like $10,000-15,000 USD right now, but they should be down to about $2,000 in about 4 years they say (not sure about color ones)

$10,000 is CHEAP! I haven't checked, but that's way less than I would have guessed. It's also way cheaper and easier than the many machining options that have been used, and the way they use color inkjet combined with white binder/powder body for built-up color is brilliant.

I have to admit though that this demo video shows a bunch of things that remind me more of claymation than anything else. Watch out Wallace and Grommit.

it is still more expensive that machining a prototype. but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the current rapid prototyping machines, my school got one last year and it think it was in the $2 million range

the only problem is that the models these things make are weak... you cant use them for anything more than display/prototyping purposes.

eh, what the hell, its awesome.

Man, I got to see this thing at an Architectural Convention in the L.A. Convention Center in California... it is so quiet and fast for its kind! I was really impressed and wanted to get one for my projects. Too bad I don't have the money though; I guess it's time for me to think about settling down in a firm or find a rich friend :O.
