the part with the nursery rhyme in the background, and the camera shot of derren pulling out the needles from the table looked like a freeeeeeaaaaaaakkkkkiiiiinnngggggg creepy part of a movie...freak me out a bit.

That effect is extremely old and very common. Comedian/magician Harry Anderson made it famous.
I used to do walkaround magic and I actually still own this effect. it's in my closet in my trunk full of goodies. BTW, its not fake skin.
