I can only think of three things as a good defence, a gun and running. Bringing a bigger knife may or may not work.

Lunging at someone wielding a knife is never a good idea.

Only in the US are you allowed to carry a gun without being an officer of the law, thanks to all the over-literal people that still think the 2nd amendment still applies today the way it did when it was written (which basically say any militia has the right to bare arms to defend themselves in case the English come back to invade...)...

So in other countries, like Canada for example, knives are usually the most common weapon found in a street fight. What this guy teaches can save your life, so I don't think it's stupid.

Never the less he makes a good point, most people that are intending to kill you with a knife that are peak condition will slash franticly or not even reveal that they have weapon until it's too late. Evading, bumping, and countering is definately a simple solid piece of advice for taking care of yourself

Nothing is more funny than the military teaching people to actually control the arm that has the knife. This guy teaches it differently. I wonder which is correct.
