New Innovative Approach to Wiring

FlatWire is a technology, not a product. It's an innovative new approach to wiring that will change the way consumers, designers and contractors think about home makeover and renovation and its applications are global.

This video is deceptive. At the beginning, they show you a lot of AC wiring (line voltage) and talk about how difficult it is to work with it once a house or building is complete. Then they show you this "new technology" that allows you to run new wiring in a finished building very easily and practically invisibly. But SURPRISE! It's LOW VOLTAGE wiring. NOT line voltage. This "technology" would not be appropriate for 110 or 220 volts A/C.

With the right investements and/or govornment grats, I'm sure they'll figure out a way to get higher voltage through the same, or similar wires..

This guy will more than likely be a billionare in a few years.

looks neat actually.. I wouldn't mind having my surround sound hooked up with that, I hate having those long nasty wires showing.

Running wires in a finished house is NOT that difficult. I work in construction, and see it done all of the time. Usually its for cable and telephones, but there are many cases in which electricians install more electical outlets.

Cool idea, though. We need to figure out something to get rid of all the wires. Hell, if you've got a home theater system with a few game systems hooked up to it. Its a nightmare.

they also do AC 110-220

Being someone who does all of my own renovations, I would shit to find all the wires under the paint and have to do all the re-wiring too.

what happens if the wall starts leaking water and it drips onto the flat wire? Besides computer have this type of wire, usually in the hard drive.

I have one huge question, is this safe? I mean the wires in the wall are, well, behind a wall. This wiring is in the open. How tough is the insulation for this flat wire? I assume that like all other wires if the insulation fades it will cause fires but since this technology is considered revolutionary, it shouldn't, right? Does it have safety measures like grounding if the conductor is exposed?

Once it's there, there's no way to tell where it is.

That means that you're screwed everytime you're trying to do renovation work.

theres not really a way to know where the wires go when plastered in a wall either. Not if you know where they are. You can also drill a hole in a wall to hang a painting and still drill in a wire inside the wall.. same as with this. The only advantage I see with this new invention is that you can hold a magnet against the wall where you want to drill and if it sticks.. theres a wire if not it's safe.. I think it's a pretty cool invention and will do many people good for a quick fix.
