This weapon is amazing, but doesnt it jam becasue of copper based bullets? From what i heard the chamber overheats and the copperbullets melt, and jam the gun. Trying to unjam a gun in the middle of battle field could get you shot you in the ass.

But, that doesn't matter much, expesccially when we were fighting nam. The old M4's where a bit more acurate than the ak, problem was... your in a fucking jungle so the guns where always getting wet and dirty and made them impossible to fire.

On top of that... this gun can shoot 2 football fields range and can hit the target perfectly, if you get the longer barreled AK-47 you in a way get the m-16 effect, you increase your range by alot but you dont comprimise the speed/power or the ruggedness of the gun.

great rifle indeed,

but if americans use it in iraq/afghanistan then its distinctive sound will cause other americans to think they are the enemy.

we cannot let that happen. so let us continue with the m-16.

In Soviet Russia, AK makes YOU!

...well pretty much everywhere. give anyone an AK and you have a cheap conscript with killing force for very cheap.

AK may be quality, but i can't wait until the XM-8 design gets the upgrades against sand and water to make it as durable and potent as the AK.

^^ Not really, the XM8 Takes a shit load of time and money to make. It's frame is made out of mostly composites meaning it'd actually be heavier than the AK. The AK is made out of basicly a wooden stock and a lightweight frame. The bullets each guns use are the same 5.56x45, but i dont know much information about the penetration of the XM8, but from what i know armor percsing rounds for the AK-47 are pretty easy to get, and they can go through 4 inches of steel.

#1. Kalashnikov didn't invent shit...He stole the weapon from Nazi Germany. His first model was nearly Identical to the model the Germans used on the eastern front.

2.^Vicsand????What are you taking about? The soviet AK-47 fires a 7.62x39 round.

3.What were those tests suppose to prove to me. I've seen other weapons submerged and fired also. Why wouldn't it. The weapon was buried with the ejection port down of course. I don't care how reliable a weapon is, a rifle full of dirt would be a rifle full of dirt. I'm sure most would fire. I'm also quite certain if you kept doing it without cleaning the weapon something catostrophic would happen to it. What the hell by the way is running it over suppose to prove?

^^ dude the whole video was trying to prove how durrable as fuck the ak is.. run over your paintball gun and see how well it fires... dumbass. Also it is true that the AK uses 7.92 x 33 mm but... AK varriants found in Hungry and Bulgaria fire the orginal bullet that was 5.56x45 they lowered the bullet to a 7.92 x 33mm to save money.. the damnge diffrence between those bullets is almost nothing....

I thought US army cancelled the XM8 in the end?

Also AK family can fire for longer before overgheating/grip catching fire.

@mortar78

Russia made the first assault rifle.

Although it was pretty crap and StG-44 is miles ahead.

It's like saying the Tiger I stole from the British Mark 1.

Going to back up mortar on the size of the round, he's right, they're 7.62 rounds. Also, the whole firing it after immersing it in water and dust, especially when he just kind of shook out the shit from inside the barrel, very unspectacular. I could probably do that to my Marlin 336 (hunting rifle), and it would be fine. I'm just going to emphasize the fact that AK ammunition is remarkably easy to find and buy, ap or not. It's cheap as dirt. AK's these days are also remarkably easy to buy, especially in the states and places with lax gun laws

Vicsand...The difference between those bullets is about 2 mm. There is a enormous difference in the performance of the ammunition and it's application.

otester...I was not disputing that, merely that kalashnikov gets credit where it is not due. You cannot deny that he did not steal technology from Nazi germanys STG-44 and claim it as his own. The AK-47 and the STG-44 are nearly identical even in appearance.

Although it does have substandard aim comparable to most of it's counterparts, it's mass productivity came at a price. The countries that produced it used low quality materials. The weapons lifespan is not very great due to rapid metal fatigue. This is not necessarily true for all of them because many of them that are being produced now are produced in western countries such as the U.S. which are of a greater quality and utilize chromed barrels which greatly increases the weapons viability.

XM8 WAS cancelled, true. However it had more potential as the new assault rifle than other contendors from other contractors. It's downsides were that it just wasn't fit for desert warfare, had some sand problems and as i recall needed cleaning more than other guns. Which is why i say if it were improved it would be a much more viable weapon. It's accuracy and rate of fire were much better than either m16 or AK.

Or maybe i'm just a little eager to stop using 50-year old weapons.

^^ I love the ak but i agree... i was hoping the barret or the new improved sniper rifle they had on modern weapons would have been number 1 but you cant over look the sheer amazingness of this 50 year old weapon, i mean for it's age and history few guns come close to what the AK has done

Those saying that the AK-47 should be at the number 1 spot clearly haven't seen the first place 'weapon' and the reason why.

Anyone who knows what they're doing can fire a gun, or even design the ultimate firearm....but what use is it without the human being behind it? Also, humans can kill by themselves as well.

One could argue that a machine could be designed to fire a gun, thus removing the human element....but they'd be wrong there as well, because the human still designed that machine. Therefore, humans are far more dangerous than any weapon alone by an infinite degree.

Aren't most assault rifles?

The bolt mechanisms are very different.
