Wow, it's weird cuz the crash wasn't even that serious. Seemed like it could've been so much worse. But so little was needed to take him away. RIP.

I hate NASCAR with a passion. But Earnhardt was a good man. Gunna miss that guy. He was the only reason why I even turned the channel to watch NASCAR...

He was the greatest nascar driver ever, we will all miss him i was there on turn 4 when it happened, at the time we all didnt feel like he was hurt after all he has been in many crahes that look horrific and he just clims out and waves and that was what everyone was looking for but it never happend ,what happened was the worst thing possible later that night the doctor came on the news and annonced him dead we love you man ,R.I.P

bloodfiend^ yeah it was pretty cool how gordon drove earnhardt flag around after he tied his record lots of respect to gordon ,now that he has tied his record for wins now he can try to tie earnhardts and petty record for championships

He hit at such an angle to where his head missed the steering wheel. The momentum of his head fractured the base of his skull where the spine attaches. It is known as a basal skull fracture. The Hans device prevents this by tethering your helmet to your shoulders. He refused to wear the device because he believed it limited his mobility. The Hans device is now mandatory in most of car racing.
