They fucked up when they said early snow saved Moscow from Hitler as it did with Napoleon.

Napoleon did take Moscow, except back then the vast majority of buildings were built from wood and the russians had burnt most of the city to the ground. There was no food, and no tzar to negotiate the terms of surrender with. So, Napoleon took Moscow, then left it a few months later.
