these were on the news for weeks, they were making out that they where made by alien aircraft... untill they caught a group of students making them...

They had a discovery channel special on those, where 2 - just two - people showed how they planned and made those in about 6 hours with simple mathematics, some wooden stakes, rope, and boards.

They would measure the land they were planning to make the circles on, and scale it down to a notebook drawing for planning out the shape. They carefully walk into the center, mark the center point of the master circle and off they go. With a large, broomstick like stake in the center, they tie a rope to it the length of the radius of the circle and attach it to themselves.

Next they use special boards about 2-3 feet wide (left to right in this case) by 1 foot long, by a few inches thick, that have 2 holes near each end for a handle rope to be looped through. Holding the rope as a handle, which holds the board to the bottom of their foot like a shoe, they work their way out of the middle lightly bending over the plants, in a spiral pattern, untily they reach the edge of the circle as indicated by the center tied rope.

To move to another spot and start another circle they simply knock down a straight, wide path to it which connects it in the design and adds mystery.

Eventually they got more creative and startedmaking different patterns such as ellipses with 2 centers staked out, or multiple hollow circles, where they knocked down only the edge of a cluster of circles each with their respective centers different but close to each other. They were attempting to make it look even more alien. This is illogical of course, as it shows that humans simply got better at it, since you have to assume aliens would already know what they wanted to mark in the fields, not need practice.
