Yeah, the Brits used the Canadian Army for cannon fodder in World War I. They were always sent in ahead of the British troops. (And that's a fact, Jacque!)

Probably why they're a bit touchy on the subject of war these days.

He's talking about people who later formed Canda, Deez. And technically, he doesn't understand history either. You can't count people who lived in your country before it became a country as yours. That'd be like saying Native Americans were fighting for America since they lived on the land before us. I'm pretty sure they'd argue that point as well. So in reality, the British won the war, not Canadians.
(Also as a side note, they signed a treaty in which no side gained or lost land, so technically no one really won at all.)
