trainer philip hendricks, who is part of the hendricks brothers circus, says dillion, who has a white face, brown body and is wearing a leash, is usually confident in new surroundings but the train whistle sent him scurrying.
the circus is leaving town thursday morning and hendricks is worried that his monkey won't be found before then.
hendricks suggests that anyone who spots dillion try to lure him with food. he's fond of apples, oranges, nuts, berries -- and kentucky fried chicken.

baltimore (ap) -- police said a 58-year-old man stabbed his teenage son after he refused to take off his hat at church earlier in the day. the father and his 19-year-old son got into an argument on sunday afternoon. that's when police said the father went to a car, got a knife and stabbed his son in the left buttock and fled. the son was taken to university of maryland medical center for treatment. the father's name was withheld pending his arrest. source have any interesting articles you'd like to share? article request thread.

minnesota: a st. paul man is charged with a gross misdemeanor after he allegedly ripped a shirt off his four-year-old son and hit the boy for wearing a rival gang's color. kenny t. jackson, 30, was charged with malicious punishment of a child in ramsey county district court, according to a criminal complaint dated wednesday. st. paul police arrested jackson on tuesday afternoon after they responded to a 911 call from a home in the 500 block of sherburne avenue, the complaint said. the unnamed caller, who said he was jackson's stepfather, reported that jackson was on drugs and "destroying the house." the stepfather said he was hiding in a bedroom because jackson was yelling and throwing things, and he was afraid. the caller said jackson was angry because he is reportedly a bloods gang member, and his son had been wearing a blue shirt, the color of a rival gang. jackson was breaking things in the house when police arrived, the complaint said. he fled on foot and tried to hide in the trunk of a car but was apprehended. police found the boy shirtless, scratched and crying. a 5-year-old in the house said jackson had "whooped" the boy and two other children. another child said the man was angry because the kids were wearing blue clothes, and that they couldn't eat because they were scared. when questioned, jackson denied the allegations and asked for an attorney, the complaint said. on thursday, a judge ordered jackson not to contact the 4-year-old, according to paul gustafson, a spokesman for the ramsey county attorney's office. court records indicate that jackson was ordered last month to serve time in the county workhouse for a probation violation stemming from a 2003 drug conviction, gustafson said. jackson has a court hearing scheduled for sept. 10. source

il -- a springfield mass transit district bus driver received a one-day unpaid suspension recently for wearing a pink tie to help raise awareness for breast cancer. the driver had to serve the suspension, but his action also led to the smtd agreeing that employees could wear pink on fridays in recognition of national breast cancer awareness month in october. william “bill” jones, 46, said he didn’t think wearing a pink tie on the first friday of the month would be a problem, since national breast cancer awareness month is a nationally recognized event. locally, st. john’s hospital and the american cancer society have been promoting a campaign called “real men wear pink,” encouraging men to wear pink on fridays in october as a reminder to women to get annual mammograms. jones said he was told to take the pink tie off and later was told he must take a day without pay because the tie was a violation of the district’s dress code. jones, an smtd employee for nine years, said he planned to file a formal grievance on tuesday. for jones, wearing the pink tie was personal. he’s had several relatives who have battled cancer, including a grandmother, a sister, a couple of cousins and a niece. “it represents the women of my family who have fallen to breast cancer and cancer itself,” jones said. “and to all women across this country who have either fallen from the disease or who have survived. that’s basically what it’s for.” linda tisdale, the smtd’s managing director, declined to comment on the specifics of the incident, saying it is a personnel matter. speaking generally, tisdale said the district provides a uniform for new employees, including one pair of shoes, a belt, two neckties, four shirts, three pairs of slacks/trousers and a jacket/coat. it also provides up to $200 a year worth of new uniform items. “any time there is a deviation from the uniform, the employee must ask in advance,” she said. “we’ve tended to work with them on these occasions. it’s approved in advance so any deviation can be open up to all the operators.’ for example, she said, employees several years ago asked to dress up for halloween. tisdale said that was approved, and there was even a contest for best costume. other approved requests have included red and white santa claus hats. tisdale said she has consulted with the transit board, and she posted a memo oct. 7 informing employees that pink could be worn on fridays in october in recognition of breast cancer month. but jones said he still had to serve his suspension. jones said he decided to file a grievance not only because he was suspended for wearing a pink tie, but also for being singled out. source
sao paulo — a brazilian university has expelled a woman who was heckled by hundreds of fellow students for wearing a short, pink dress to class — publicly accusing her sunday of immorality. the private bandeirante university in sao bernardo do campo, outside sao paulo, said 20-year-old geisy arruda disrespected "ethical principles, academic dignity and morality." bandeirante university published newspaper advertisements sunday accusing arruda of attending class with "inadequate clothing" and having a provocative attitude that was "incompatible with the university environment." arruda made headlines after the oct. 22 incident, in which she had to be escorted away by police after wearing the mini-dress to class. she put on a professor's white coat and left amid a hail of insults and curses. in the ad, titled "educational responsibility," the college said it had warned arruda to change her behavior and decided to expel her after talking to students, staff and arruda herself. it accused her of posing for pictures and provoking other students. the university said it was also temporarily suspending some of the students who were seen heckling arruda in a video of the incident that made the rounds on youtube. it did not say how many were being suspended or how long they would be kept from attending classes. brazil's national student union released a statement on sunday saying it was against the university's decision to expel arruda, and brazil's top official for women's policy, nilcea freire, told the official agencia brasil news service that the decision showed "intolerance and discrimination." although brazil is known for its skimpy attire, especially in beach cities, most college students dress more modestly on campus — commonly in jeans and t-shirts. some students had complained that arruda seemed out of place in her revealing clothes, brazilian media reported. source
