toronto's old city hall was home to city council from 1899 to 1966 and remains one of the city's most prominent structures. it opened on september 18, 1899 and was the largest building in toronto, and the largest municipal building in north america at the time.
the skydome is a multi-purpose stadium in toronto, ontario, situated next to the cn tower near the shores of lake ontario. it is home to major league baseball's toronto blue jays and the canadian football league's toronto argonauts. while it is primarily a sports venue, skydome also hosts other large-scale events such as conventions, trade fairs, and concerts. skydome is also noted for being the first stadium to have a fully retractable motorized roof, as well as a hotel attached to it, with 70 rooms overlooking the field. construction was complete in may 1989 at a total cost of $570,000,000 cdn.
yesterday, an explosion at a tim hortons doughnut shop in toronto killed one. no one was injured.
apparently, a man carrying a can of gasoline went into the bathroom shortly before the explosion. police do not believe the man to be a terrorist.
“he's not a strap-on al-qaeda bomber guy,” sgt. cole of the toronto police said. “it sounds to me like a guy who either wanted to do a torch job or commit suicide.”
cbc reported that after the explosion, a suspicious bag was found and subsequently detonated by explosives experts. it was found to contain school supplies.
the police will further investigate the incident, but assure people that this was not a terrorist attack.
