article submitted by ug7344 . prosecutors said a man on trial in connection with the 2006 slaying of an 18-year-old woman tried to cover up the crime by pouring steak sauce on the teenager. the trial of edward campbell got under way wednesday, with jurors hearing how michelle carrasco was stabbed, strangled and sexually assaulted before her death. prosecutors also allege that campbell may have been trying to cover up dna evidence in an unusual fashion -- by pouring steak marinade over the victim's body. defense attorneys counter that carrasco was killed in self-defense. several investigators testified about what they found at the crime scene, including how carrasco was killed. "it was approximately four centimeters deep into the chest, which is only based on an estimate of the structure it went through," medical examiner john steash said. "it went through the chest, tissue, the ribcage and whatever organs were hit. "in this case, it entered the skin, the fat beneath the skin, the muscles, pericardium, the (sac) that holds the heart and it injured the heart." testimony in the murder trial is scheduled to continue thursday morning. if convicted of murder, campbell could face anywhere from five years to life imprisonment. source

a restaurant cook is out of a job and facing a felony charge after being accused of hiding hairs in a ribeye because a customer complained the first steak served to him was overcooked. kevin hansen, who dined at the steakhouse with friends and family saturday, said he ordered a 16-ounce ribeye cooked medium rare, with a warm, red center, according to the criminal complaint filed against cook ryan kropp. when restaurant service manager michael liberatore stopped by the table, hansen told him the steak was cooked medium, not medium rare. hansen declined an offer of a new steak, but liberatore persisted and offered a new steak he could take home, the complaint said. liberatore then took what was left of the first steak and showed it to kropp and the other cook on duty "so that they could both learn what a medium rare steak was supposed to look like," the complaint said. hansen went to police sunday to complain of hair in the second steak. a police officer observed "several strands of what appeared to be hair coming out of the middle of the steak," the complaint said. kropp, 24, of west bend, was charged wednesday with a felony of placing foreign objects in edibles, carrying up to 3 1/2 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. he was released on a signature bond. kropp admitted to police he put a few of his facial hairs on the steak, saying he was angry the customer sent the other steak back and thought he was "just trying to get free stuff," according to the complaint. according to the complaint, a second kitchen worker told police kropp put a slit in the steak and pushed something inside, then stated, "these are my pubes," referring to pubic hair. travis doster, a spokesman for the texas roadhouse chain of 288 restaurants in 44 states, said thursday night that kropp and the other worker were both terminated. "food safety is our number one priority and we will not allow anyone to compromise that," doster said. "as a company, we're not only shocked, we're angry that someone would pull such a reckless stunt as putting facial hair in a steak." he said the west bend restaurant has an excellent inspection record. "i just feel for the staff because they really work hard, and one silly stupid stunt impacts everybody," he said. kropp has a hearing scheduled march 26 in washington county circuit court. there was no answer when the associated press called a phone listing for kropp thursday night seeking comment. a message for his lawyer, public defender erin joy larsen, was not immediately returned. source
a waiter brings the customer the steak he ordered with his thumb over the meat. "are you crazy?" yelled the customer, "with your hand on my steak?" "what" answers the waiter, "you want it to fall on the floor again?"
article submitted by master911. space smells like fried steak and hot metal according to astronauts so nasa has paid a chemist to recreate the odours on earth. the space agency has commissioned steven pearce of british fragrance firm omega ingredients to recreate the smells to help train astronauts, the press association reported "we have a few clues as to what space smells like. first of all, there were interviews with astronauts that we were given, when they had been outside and then returned to the space station and were de-suiting and taking off their helmets, they all reported quite particular odours. "for them, what comes across is a smell of fried steak, hot metal and even welding a motorbike, one of them said." mr pearce recreated the smell of the mir space station for an art exhibition and when nasa heard about this they asked him to get on board with their training program. “we have already produced the smell of fried steak, but hot metal is more difficult," he said. “we think it’s a high energy vibration in the molecule and that’s what we’re trying to add to it now.” source
