bigfoot fever is gripping malaysia, with local newspapers and the official news agency reporting sightings of a huge ape in southern rainforests.
in one reported sighting, an indigenous man claimed he saw a 10-feet-tall (300-cm-tall) ape standing on two legs beside a river in heavy rainforest in johor state, the director of the state's national-parks service told reuters on sunday.
"he said it was hairy all over, like a gorilla," said hashim yusoff, director of johor national parks corp.
hashim took a group of park rangers and journalists into the sungai madek forest reserve last week in four-wheel-drive vehicles to ask indigenous people in the area about the reported sightings.
he said he was keeping an open mind and wanted to enlist scientists to prove whether the beast was fact or fantasy. "we are collecting a database on the sightings," he added.
hashim denied he was staging a publicity stunt to lure more visitors to the area. but with latest remake of the movie "king kong" and bigfoot-spotting almost an industry in itself, there are bound to be suspicions.
"no way. if there's any suggestion that we are using this one to get publicity, it's not true," hashim said.
the malayasian press is enjoying the story, running headlines like "rangers on the trail of bigfoot" and "villagers' close encounter with bigfoot".
one newspaper published a picture of a large but vague impression in mud, calling it a footprint.

about 10 thailand villagers say they have seen an alien.
they claim to have spotted the alien in a nearby rice field. the 'extraterrestrial' was said to have a small body, a large head and didn't leave any footprints.
it is reported the creature wandered around in the field for about an hour without taking any notice of the villagers.
one villager who was among those who rushed to see it, said: "the alien is about 70 cm high and has yellow skin and a flat chest. its mouth is very tiny." the villager described it as having a big bald head with big eyes and big ears. he added: "suddenly, the alien floated to a tree top. after more villagers came to see it, it floated into the sky into the bright light."
district chief wisit sitthisombat, who interviewed the 10 residents, said they were consistent in their testimonies.
he said: "i asked them to draw what they have seen and the pictures came out similarly."
i'd say the most likely scenarios are: it was in fact an alien. the 10 villagers were on a magic mushroom trip. i mean, what else is there left to consider?

claudio paulo pinto is looking to break an eye-popping record. literally. pinto can pop his eyeballs out of their sockets at least 7 millimeters (0.3 inches), a national record for eye-popping according to rankbrasil, an organization modeled after the guinness book of world records that lists brazilian records.
a former driver, pinto got a job scaring visitors in a commercial haunted house in belo horizonte, 210 miles north of rio de janeiro. but he recently was laid off, and now he seeks international recognition for his ability.

this is the first image released showing the july 20th 1969 moon landing sight. the apollo 11 descent stage is clearly visible as a white spot with a black shadow to its right side.
