the house has voted to divert federal funds covering erectile dysfunction drugs to hurricane relief.
the bill's sponsor said the government would save $690 million over five years by prohibiting medicare and medicaid health care programs from subsidizing prescriptions for sexual performance drugs.
the money will be used to provide $500 million in federal unemployment funds to hurricane-affected states to help them pay benefits to out-of-work people.
the bill, passed by voice vote, also extends several health programs that assist low-income families nationwide.
the senate has also approved legislation to end federal funding for such drugs. the house earlier this year approved a similar amendment to a spending bill covering health programs. but no bill banning federal payments for the drugs has cleared congress.

a bill collector was arraigned today after roseville police said he offered to make a city woman’s bill go away in exchange for a sex act and then exposed himself to her before leaving her home. george herron, 43, of detroit was ordered held on $10,000 bond on criminal sexual conduct and aggravated indecent exposure, both misdemeanors, in roseville’s 39th district court, police said. they said he is an account representative for rent-a-center and went to the 21-year-old woman’s home oct. 22 to discuss a delinquent account. during the discussion, he turned the conversation into a sexual nature, offering to make her bill go away in exchange for a sex act, police said. herron then exposed himself to her while taking her hand and placing on himself. the woman pulled away and herron completed the sex act upon himself before leaving her home, police said. later, police said, herron called the woman and again expressed an interest in exchanging a sex act for eliminating her debt to the company. she then reported the incident to police. source

spirits soar as the international space station's only toilet is repaired. cosmonaut-plumber oleg kononenko tackled the critical job of fixing the sole toilet aboard the international space station, with apparently successful results after a two-and-a-half hour maintenance call. kononenko, the station's lead flight engineer, replaced a pump needed to filter urine so the waste can be properly processed. the russian-made toilet has been working only intermittently for about 10 days, requiring time-consuming manual flushes four to five times a day.
