i had been doing tech support for hewlett-packard's deskjet division for about a month when i had a customer call with a problem i just couldn't solve. she could not print yellow. all the other colors would print fine, which truly baffled me because the only true colors are cyan, magenta, and yellow. for instance, green is a combination of cyan and yellow, but green printed fine.
every color of the rainbow printed fine except for yellow. i had the customer change ink cartridges. i had the customer delete and reinstall the drivers. nothing worked. i asked my co-workers for help; they offered no new ideas.
after over two hours of troubleshooting, i was about to tell the customer to send the printer in to us for repair when she asked quietly,
"should i try printing on a piece of white paper instead of this "yellow" construction paper?"

this is a print of a banksy picture that my girlfriend had put on to canvas for me. it shows someone throwing a bunch of flowers as if it were a bottle.
a cleverly disguised commercial. this also makes me want to work in a print shop very badly.

this is another banksy picture that my girlfriend had put onto canvas for me, this is of queen victoria sitting on the face of another woman.
the last picture that my girlfriend had put on to canvas for me, this shows a british policeman giving the finger.
by the artist paul whitehead. in paul's words - "i met genesis through their producer. we hit it off instantly and - thanks to the visionary approach of the record company -charisma - we were left alone to create the records and the covers of three records together with no interference. the results were trespass, nursery cryme & foxtrot, some of the most successful collaborations i have ever had working with musicians, they created the music and i made original paintings that reflected exactly the content of the records."
this sink seems to be a six shooter pistol barrel turned against us.

a supermarket in the uk (waitrose) has been selling these seasonal halloween apples, which we rather like. early in the growing season, someone has to place a bag around every apple. as the apple develops, it grows larger of course, but since it is shielded from the sun, it doesn't ripen. then , when the apple is full size, the bag is removed and a small mask is attached to each apple. within a few weeks the apple ripens, but the area covered by the mask remains paler. the mask consists of a transparent sticker, possibly of acetate. the image is printed on the sticker with opaque ink. i remember reading about this experiment in a book of children's science experiments many years ago. nice to see a major supermarket taking up the idea. of course this is a way of creating images that would have existed a long time before photography was ever invented.
yup.

god knows wiki was a major contributor to my college success.

released in 2005 by fuel 2000, this recording fueled a lot of debate about "whether there can be a ten years after without alvin lee". while i'm not sure that i can support an argument one way or the other (is any band "the same" when a major contributor departs?), having heard some of the cuts off the album, all i can say is that the band still rocks. with new tracks such as "long time running" and "time to kill" showing that the current tya crew's chops are still impressive, it seems clear that they're making a good argument that a band can continue to grow and give listeners something fine to listen to, regardless of its line-up. anyway, the album cover is beautiful - isn't that really all that matters? :-)
2003 marked the 30th anniversary of this album - pink floyd’s commercial-meets-conceptual equinox. no.1 on the billboard album charts in march of 1973, this recording went on to achieve a record 741 weeks (or 14 whole years) on the ‘top 200 albums’ chart. it is the longest-charting album ever (beating its nearest rival by five years), with well over thirty five million copies sold to date.
