the cn tower, at 553.33 metres is the tallest free-standing tower on land in the world. it is located in the city of toronto, ontario, and is considered the signature icon of the city. the cn tower attracts over two million visitors annually. the sky pod, a small enclosed platform elevated high above the main observation floor, is located at 447 m and is the highest public observation deck in the world. from its top, it is possible on a clear day to see approximately 100-120 km away and even see an outline of the city of rochester across lake ontario in the united states. a metal staircase with 1,776 steps reaches the sky pod level (447 m or 147 stories) and is the tallest metal staircase on earth.

toronto eaton centre (circa 1977). the eatons store (especially at this location) had huge success during the 1970s and 1980s, but due to overwhelming competition from us department stores making their way into canada in the early '90s, that success faded away quickly. eatons went bankrupt in 1999.
