yesterday, president bush said that he plans to send up to 6000 national guard troops to the us-mexican border.

he said he was determined to gain control of the border. participation for the southern states bordering on mexico is strictly voluntary.

he also supported a plan to legalize 12 million illegal immigrants, giving them the possibility to eventually become legal citizens. now, the waiting period for unskilled people to become legal citizens is about 18 years.

although some republicans labeled this plan as amnesty, bush said that it wasn’t realistic to round up millions of people and send them back to mexico. he wants to find middle ground between mass deportation and automatic granting of citizenship.

although bush said that mexico is a neighbor and a friend, mexico has reacted with anger to the plans of bush to send national guard to the border.

many think that the national guard will do little in stopping those determined to get into the us, others say that it does not take into account the reason why so many are crossing the border.

bush said it was not his intention to militarize the southern border.

president fox of mexico and president bush both agree that the illegal immigration issue needs an integral solution, not a police solution.

the annual observance doesn’t have a hugely high profile. it started in 1995 in—where else?—san francisco, as a response to the forced resignation of u.s. surgeon general joycelyn elders.
after a speech at the united nations world aids day in 1994, an audience member asked elders about masturbation’s potential for discouraging early sexual activity. she replied: “i think [it] is something that is part of human sexuality and a part of something that perhaps should be taught.”

that was the end of the first black surgeon general’s washington career, but the beginning of national masturbation month, a protest effort started by the company good vibrations.

there were no fireworks so a lot of people probably missed it. we even forgot to mention it here on the swamp when it happened though we saw the reports. anyway, on the last day of september, the national debt hit $10 trillion plus.

president bush signed legislation in july that raised the debt ceiling to $10.615 trillion. meanwhile, the financial bailout legislation passed by the senate last night would raise the debt ceiling further to $11.315 trillion.

here's something else worth knowing. the gross national debt as a percentage of the gross domestic product has, under the bush administration, hit a 50-year high. the following two charts illustrate the trend nicely.

some christian churches say pornography has become more and more accessible, leading to more problems with addiction and crime. so sunday, churches around the country said enough is enough, and participated in national porn sunday to address the internal pains of porn that millions of americans have to face.

"quite frankly it's talked about everywhere but church often," said church goer katie fisher. she joined thousands of christians in our area and millions nationwide in national porn sunday.

"we're going to kick the devil out of it," said pastor tony scott. during services, he told his congregation there's too much porn saturating our culture. "we're trying to send a message that sexual purity is important for the man and for the woman...for the family...for america. ... this society needs a revival," said scott.

national porn sunday got some help from xxxchurch.com -- a resource for people to get help started by some guys who made a documentary about their experiences with porn. pastors in our area said there is assistance here for anyone. "they don't need to be ashamed of it," said pastor john ransom. "there is help out there and we want to help them any way we can," he added.

people in the seats wanted to hear the message. "a lot of people don't like to talk about it and it's an issue that the church should handle," said member christy flack. "we're making a stand saying that this is a problem and we need to take care of it," said flack.

"a lot of times (people) are trapped and they don't know where to turn...they're afraid to talk to somebody," said member matthew wrozek.

church members told us porn is definitely a detriment to society that shouldn't be passed on to our young people. "so often they hear about sex and pornography from every source, but church and even from their parents," said fisher. "so it's important that we show them what the word of god has to say about pornography and sexual purity."

studies show 9 in every 10 kids ages 8-16 have seen porn online. porn is such a big business, u.s. porn revenues exceed the combined revenues made by nbc, abc and cbs television networks.

after researching for ages i found the real study behind the famous tiger attack. since some people wanted to know more about it, i thought i share it. 19th may 2004. a team rangers, along with five elephants, from kaziranga national park were locating a female bengal tiger, which was responsible for killing farm animals in the local area. the rangers trying to sedate the tiger to relocate it back to the wild. at first attempt of darting the tiger from 20 feet, the rangers miss. which pissed the tiger off and she took a charge at the rangers. jumping more than 12 feet, the tiger was able to injure one of the mahout (an elephant driver). the elephant (joymala) responded on the attack of its master, and chased the tiger. the mahout was able to calm the elephant down. the mahout has some balls of steel, trying to deter the tiger with a stick. for the offical story and details of the whole event go to the link below. http://www.wildlifetrustofindia.org/html/news/2004/040609_joymala.htm
