a japanese vehicle manufacturer unveiled the prototype of a new electric motorbike carrying a hybrid magnetic motor, which can run almost noiselessly up to 180 kilometres (112 miles) on one charge. tokyo-based axle corporation says that the battery of the next-generation electric vehicle motorbike can be charged at home, in the same way as a cellular phone. it takes a little over 6 hours to fully charge the battery, and the vehicle's maximum speed is capable of reaching 150 kilometres per hour (93 miles per hour). the company says the futuristic motorbike enjoys high energy efficiency thanks to a state-of-the-art magnetic motor which is a hybrid between a electromagnet and a permanent magnet. the new motor, called sumo, short for "super motor," is housed inside the bike's rear wheel. the manufacture says the new motor is seven-times more cost efficient than gas-powered scooters. daisuke ito, a professional racer who test rode the ev-x7 prototype, said it could potentially replace machines we now see in motor races. "i just feel that in the near future, we'll be seeing these kinds of electric motorbikes running all around town. and when that happens, conventional vehicles could disappear from motor racing, too, and well be competing only in electric vehicles." www.itnsource.com reuters rtv521706

a chinese man was arrested for stealing a motorcycle - part by part over five years from the factory where he worked. zhang, an assembly line worker in a motorcycle factory in chongqing, had always wanted his own motorbike but could never afford one. he started stealing parts from the factory warehouse and assembling them at home in 2003, reports the chongqing times. "i don't have that much money, so i came up with the idea of taking the parts home and assembling them on my own," said zhang. after five years, he had finally built himself a brand new suv motorcycle and proudly started driving it on the road. but, almost immediately, he was pulled up by police who discovered that he had no driving license or paperwork for the bike. zhang admitted theft and was fined the equivalent of £440, put on probation for a year, and ordered to return the motorcycle to the factory. source

a motorcyclist with a helmet-wearing corpse strapped to his back crashed in the mexican city of tijuana on the u.s. border on friday and fled on foot, setting off a police murder hunt.
the unidentified driver was trying to ride with the body through the center of tijuana, south of san diego, california., when he lost control rounding a curve.
he fled the scene, leaving the dead passenger on the curb. police said the corpse, which had head injuries and bore strangulation marks, had died at least six hours earlier.
"when the police arrived they took the helmet off the corpse, believing at first that he had died in the crash," said francisco castro, a spokesman for the baja california state police's homicide division.
"but he had adhesive tape stuck to his face, a knife wound to his forehead, and showed signs of strangulation," he added.
castro said the dead man had wraps of methamphetamine in his pocket and an unkempt appearance, which led investigators to believe the killing was drug related.
"we think the killer was trying to take the body to a more deserted area to dispose of it," he said.
