Video:Cement Mixer Used For A Getaway

cement mixer used for a getaway

a thief caught shoplifting in germany failed to grasp the concept of a quick getaway when he jumped into a cement mixer to try to flee the scene of his crime.

the man had stolen cheese from a supermarket in the town of limbach-oberfrohna.

when a shop detective caught him pinching the £1.95 item off the shelf, he broke free and hot-footed it to his cement-mixing truck outside.

police were alerted and the 55-year-old man was arrested when he stopped at a red light a few hundred metres away.

"he was out on the job and suddenly got hungry, as honest workers sometimes do," explained a somewhat sympathetic police spokesman.

meanwhile, the eu has claimed germany has no taste when it comes to cheese.

a survey found germans and central europeans cannot tell the difference between brie and camembert.

but it was a case of vive la difference for the french and belgians, who were found to be "very sensitive to types of cheese".

germany's consumer testing organisation suggested the problem was with packaging, not people's tastebuds.

"the way brie is presented in germany it's not always clear that it is brie and not camembert," a spokeswoman explained.

"so people might think they are buying brie when they are buying camembert, and therefore have difficulty distinguishing."

the thief appeared to confirm the findings of the survey, opting for processed cheese rather than finer varieties.
