legalize marijuana

we are not talking about legalizing drugs,we are talking about giving another option to doctors who are educated enough to know what to suggest to patients" said montel williams in this documentary film on cannabis. the film talks to many folks that are using medical marijuana and swear they would not be able to function or even live without it.

Video:Denver: 1 Oz. of Marijuana or Less Legalized

denver: 1 oz. of marijuana or less legalized

voters here approved making denver the first major city to legalize small amounts of marijuana, but the mayor warned that state law still makes possession of the drug illegal.

it's all in how you look at it...

the measure, which passed tuesday with 54% of the vote, says adults 21 and older may possess up to an ounce of marijuana without penalty in the city.

a few other cities, including seattle and oakland, have laws that make marijuana possession a low priority for police. a dozen states, including colorado, have decriminalized possession of small amounts but still issue fines.

unlike denver, the colorado ski town of telluride, population 2,300, narrowly defeated a measure tuesday that would have made possession of marijuana the lowest police priority. it might be already: just 17 citations were issued there last year for pot possession.

don't expect clouds of marijuana smoke to fill denver's thin air. mayor john hickenlooper said police will continue to arrest and charge people for marijuana because state law still makes possession illegal. hickenlooper said the city can adopt an ordinance that is stricter than state law on marijuana but not one that is weaker.

bruce mirken, spokesman for the marijuana policy project in washington, d.c., said denver's vote will spur initiatives in other cities to legalize and regulate marijuana like alcohol or tobacco.

"it's certainly likely to energize people. this is the wind in the sails of reform," mirken said wednesday. "rethinking marijuana prohibition is mainstream. this is the heart of america saying, 'hold on, maybe our current marijuana laws don't make a lot of sense.' and the fact is, they're right."

mason tvert, who led the denver campaign for legalized pot, said he will encourage people who are charged under state law to fight their arrests in court.

in colorado, having an ounce of marijuana or less is punishable by a $100 fine but no jail time. "it's like a speeding ticket, and only a fraction of people end up going to court over it," said tvert, founder of safer, or safer alternative for enjoyable recreation.

tvert said his group also will seek a state initiative to license and regulate the sale of marijuana. his campaign argued that legalized pot is a safer alternative, considering the problems that arise from alcohol abuse such as violent crime and health risks.

the mayor said he opposed the measure because he considers marijuana a "gateway" drug that can lead to harder substances and "much more self-destructive behaviors." hickenlooper acknowledged, however, that denver's vote "does reflect a genuine shift in people's attitudes."

although denver's marijuana vote caught attention, the main issue coloradans approved tuesday will let the state government keep $3.7 billion in tax revenue over the next five years. the money otherwise would have been refunded to taxpayers under a 1992 constitutional amendment, the taxpayer bill of rights, which has strict caps on state spending. the statewide referendum passed with 52% of the vote.

Video:Legalized Marijuana?

legalized marijuana?

marijuana, the gateway drug that has welcomed so many unsuspecting souls into a drug induced hell, is once again up for vote on whether or not it should be legalized. it has gone up for vote in many cities and many states, but as of yet not on a national level. sadly some cities, and yes, even some states have allowed this drug to be legalized. who is voting this stuff in?

it cannot be a bunch of degenerate slackers, who are more preoccupied with playing hacky sack and eating mayonnaise than voting. so i suspect it is only the liberal left that is seeking to undermine our countries ethics and values. what is next for our country? perhaps we can legalize bestiality in public places?

pot has the following side effects: trouble remembering things, heart palpitations. sleepiness, anxiety, bad decisions, obesity, paranoia (feeling that people are “out to get you”), altered time perception, and that is just the tip of the iceberg.

marijuana also has been shown to be a key factor in why teens choose to be gay. toking homosexuals are 9 times more likely to contract the hiv virus than non-"reefer" smoking heterosexuals. it also tends to lead to smoking cigarettes, which can cause lung cancer. studies show that when rats exposed to radiation were given "dank", they still got cancer and died shortly after. so that blows away the myth that pot has any medicinal value for cancer sufferers. nine out of ten subjects that smoked "grass" on a regular basis (approximately one “joint” a month), became impotent and developed erectile dysfunction.

one side effect of marijuana use that i do like is jail time for all who use it. and that is why we must continue to strike down any attempt by the liberal left to push their drugs and hippy agenda upon us, by continually voting no to any idea of allowing this substance to be made available to our children. it is an illegal drug that destroys young people’s minds, their relationships with friends and family, and in some cases has led to suicide of first time users.

we must stand strong as a nation to protect our most valuable asset, our children. vote to keep illegal drugs illegal.

fox will sign bill legalizing drug use

mexican president vicente fox will sign a law that decriminalizes possession of small amounts of marijuana, cocaine and other drugs, the mexican government announced yesterday.

in an effort to focus on the fight against violent drug gangs, senators passed a bill on the legalization of the possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use. the president will not oppose.

public security minister eduardo medina-mora said, “international practice, including in the united states, in many cases dictates that possession of small amounts of drugs does not require a penal sanction."

at the moment, it is up to local police and judges to prosecute people arrested for possession of drugs, which often leads to corruption.

the us government was surprised by the news. the us counts mexico as an important ally in the war on drugs. many drugs find their way to the us through mexico.

although the national law decriminalizes the possession of small amounts, city and state governments can pass their own misdemeanor laws against possession.

retired cop wants drugs legalized

a self-styled texas cowboy is waging a cross-country battle against the country's drug policy, one hoof step at a time.

howard wooldridge, a resident of fort worth, texas, and retired police officer, rode his horse more than 3-thousand miles across the country to speak out against u-s drug policy.

wooldridge believes illegal drugs should be treated the same way as alcohol.

"we should spend more time chasing dwis instead of people like willie nelson who want to smoke marijuana on their back porch," wooldridge said.

wooldridge's trip began in march in los angeles. he traveled with sam and misty, a one-eyed horse, and reached battery park in new york city wednesday. his girlfriend, norma sapp, followed in a horse trailer.

wooldridge says that after three decades of fueling the anti-drug war with over half a (t) trillion tax dollars, the court system and prisons are choked with nonviolent drug violations and drugs are more potent and widespread than ever.

the 3,300-mile trip was sponsored by law enforcement against prohibition. the group is made up of current and former law enforcement officials and advocates for drug policy reform.

wooldridge said he traveled about 25 miles day. because much of his trip stretched across highways, he often walked with the horses instead of riding them.

"no real cowboy would ride his horse on hard pavement," he said.

this guy is great.
