tampa - wikler moran-mora texted his wife to say he had been kidnapped and wouldn't be let go until he gave his captors money. his worried wife called law enforcement. he texted her again, saying, "don't call, take it easy, they said they will let me go," and "everything is alright, i'll be home soon," a hillsborough county sheriff's office report states. after a full-scale manhunt, deputies tracked him down. turns out, it was a hoax – moran-mora faked his kidnapping so he could cheat on his wife, sheriff's spokesman j.d. callaway said. the incident began shortly after midnight wednesday. about 6 a.m. wednesday, moran-mora, 38, of tampa, was arrested and charged with giving a false report to law enforcement. he has been released on $500 bail. twenty deputies — including canine units — searched for moran-mora on wednesday morning. deputies traced moran-mora through his cell phone and found him at a 7-eleven on west waters avenue. he told deputies he is a church elder for a seventh day adventist church on nebraska avenue and had sent his wife the texts even though he had never been in danger. moran-mora declined to comment today other than to say the situation with his wife has been resolved. his wife said she had nothing to do with what happened but confirmed she received text messages from him. callaway said the search cost $4,000. "thank god we didn't have a legitimate emergency that would have required those resources," he said. source

a man in croatia has been sentenced to four years in prison for kidnapping a teenage girl to provide his 16-year-old son with a wife. bosko djurdjevic, 53, from the northern town of bjelovar, has been found guilty of kidnapping a 14-year-old girl from neighboring serbia since his 16-year-old son wanted a handsome young wife. the father paid two other people to help him kidnap the girl in macvanska mitrovica in northern serbia. she had reportedly met the boy and allegedly wanted to marry him but then changed her mind, the daily jutarnji list has reported. djurdjevic decided to help his son and took the girl in a mercedes to bjelovar, croatia. police found the girl after a week, and she then accused the djurdjevics of having tortured her. the girl has returned to her family in serbia. source
an 11-year-old us boy faked his own kidnapping to avoid bringing home a bad school report. the pupil claimed a man in a red car grabbed him as he left school in huntsville, alabama, and forced him into the vehicle. he told police that the man was armed with a pistol and told him: "i'm going to take you somewhere and kill you." the boy claimed that he managed to jump out of the car, leaving behind his school bag which contained his report, and ran to his grandparents' house. sgt. mark roberts said police were suspicious that the boy had somehow been able to escape with his band instrument, but not his bag. the boy eventually confessed to making the whole thing up to cover for his bad grades. his grandfather called police to apologize and report the boy's story. police said the boy faces no charges at this time. the whereabouts of the school bag and report card are still unknown, reports the huntsville times. source
