cape town (reuters) - two 19th century rhino horns stolen from a south african museum could be deadly if sold as a popular aphrodisiac because they are drenched in poison, a museum official said on monday. the "priceless" horns were snatched from a display at the historic mammal gallery in cape town on saturday evening, said jatti bredekamp, chief executive of iziko museums. "unknowingly, the thieves have exposed themselves to more than the danger of arrest and prosecution," bredekamp said in a statement. "before the mid-twentieth century, taxidermy mounts were prepared by being soaked in arsenic and preserved from insect infestation through regular applications of ddt, both highly toxic poisons that retain their toxicity over time," he said. bredekamp said the horns were deliberately targeted in a carefully planned robbery, and might be destined for asia, where ground rhino horns are a prized aphrodisiac. investigators said harvin daly, 22, was at a traffic light near remington pointe boulevard when he honked at a gold ford expedition that hesitated at a traffic light. daly said the expedition followed him and someone inside the vehicle fired shots at him.

(ap) - being honked off doesn't give you a right to honk on. that's the ruling from a snohomish county superior court judge in the case of a woman who expressed her anger at a neighbor by leaning on her car horn at 6 a.m. helen immelt got in a dispute with the neighbor in 2006, after she learned that he had filed a complaint with their homeowners association about her chickens. she responded by parking in front of his house at 5:50 a.m. the next day and leaning on her horn for 10 minutes straight. after he called the police, she returned for a second round of honking two hours later. immelt was cited for a noise violation and appealed her conviction to the superior court, saying her honking was free speech. but judge richard j. thorpe ruled monday, "horn honking which is done to annoy or harass others is not speech." source
