not many robbers can count king arthur's legendary sword in their arsenal. authorities say brian young claimed he was armed with excalibur when he reportedly held up a subway restaurant on mariner boulevard sunday night. when the call came in at 6:22 p.m., deputy dustin mormando recognized the suspect's description. the deputy had been in the sandwich shop earlier that day and said young came in, filled a cup with ice and then lingered outside. he recognized 56-year-old young from past experience as a transient who lived in the nearby woods. a clerk, jennifer grispo, told the deputy that young entered the store and approached the cash register where she was standing. "give me all of your money," he reportedly said. "don't try anything funny because i've got an excalibur." grispo emptied $440 into a plastic subway bag and handed it over. young allegedly told grispo and another clerk to walk with him out the back door and when they got outside, young bolted into the woods, a report shows. the other clerk backed up grispo's account and added that she recognized young as the guy who had been coming in for ice the past few days. mormando reported that the suspect was casing the store. a brooksville police employee, michael pizzino, was also in the area. he alerted a deputy that he had seen a suspicious man tuck a bag of money under his shirt and run into mariner lanes bowling alley. following that tip, two deputies searched the bowling alley and came across young sitting at the bar. a k-9 deputy and his police dog also conducted a search that led from the back door to the bowling alley. the money was returned to subway and young was charged with unarmed robbery. source: tbo.com
last wednesday morning, in southeast england, a gang of armed robbers walked away from a cash depot heist with 40 million pounds ($94 million). it was the largest robbery in the history of the country.the story sounds like it could have been written in hollywood!it began tuesday night when a manager of the bank was pulled over by two members of the gang who were posing as police officers. the men asked him to leave the car, then kidnapped him at gunpoint. at the same time, halfway across town, the manager’s wife and kid were visited by two other members of the gang, again posing as the police. they told the woman her husband had been in an accident. she willingly and unwittingly drove off with them. they met up at a third location where the manager was shown his family and threatened at gunpoint. he was told to cooperate or they would die. at 1 a.m. on wednesday morning, the gang drove the manager to the cash depot, followed by a white truck. he let them in and they overpowered and tied up the fourteen employees that were keeping watch. for the next hour, they proceeded to load the truck with millions of dollars worth of banknotes. they then drove off and haven’t been seen since. no one was injured.the police have urged anyone who has any information to step forward. personally, i hope they get away with it.

police investigating a bank robbery didn't have to look far for a suspect: a note passed to the teller announcing the holdup had the robber's address on the back.
"i don't think anyone realized what was on the other side," detective sgt. joseph loggia said friday.
charmaine williams stein, 30, of riverhead, was arraigned thursday in suffolk county court on one count of grand larceny, accused of holding up chase bank on june 10 and making off with $22,000.
detectives determined that bank teller john mueller was stein's accomplice, loggia said. mueller, of coram, was charged with grand larceny earlier this month.
the note demanding money was on a bulk mail advertisement that had stein's address on the back, the detective said. stein, who was believed to have been out of town for several weeks, was arrested wednesday night.
she was being held on $20,000 bail.
