monica renee champion, a thrice-convicted male prostitute who has been drawing complaints from north richmond residents, did not show up in a south richmond court yesterday to face an indecent exposure charge.
champion, known for baring a dolly parton-like chest while walking the chamberlayne avenue area, was arrested july 3 for allegedly hoisting his skirt on jefferson davis highway, according to the arresting officer.
but champion is also a wanted woman in north side for failing to appear in court for another indecent exposure charge - "exposed breasts in public view," according to the arrest warrant. charged as a woman, champion was arrested july 21 in the area of hawthorne avenue and west brookland park boulevard, according to the warrant.
when champion made an initial court appearance on that charge, records show, substitute general district judge rondelle herman admonished the defendant to wear a less-revealing blouse to court next time.
champion, a self-described transsexual, did not appear for that subsequent court appearance. so a warrant was issued last week.
court records show that the 34-year-old champion, who lives in north richmond, was twice convicted as a man of prostitution this year. he was sentenced to three months in jail. he was also convicted of the same charge, as a man, in 2003.
in 2004, champion was convicted of five other misdemeanors, including being drunk in public and petit larceny. in three of the cases, he was convicted as a female. in the other two, records show, he was listed as a male.
