hardware retailer home depot has found itself in a sticky situation, defending a lawsuit filed by a man who claims the chain's louisville store ignored his cries for help after he fell victim to a prank and was glued to a toilet seat.
bob dougherty, 57, of nederland, said he became stuck to a bathroom toilet seat on which somebody had smeared glue on oct. 30, 2003, and felt "tremendous panic" when he realized he was stuck.
"they left me there, going through all that stress," dougherty told the (boulder) daily camera. "they just let me rot."
his lawsuit, filed friday said dougherty was recovering from heart bypass surgery at the time and thought he was having a heart attack. a store employee who heard him calling for help informed the head clerk via radio, but the head clerk "believed it to be a hoax," the lawsuit said.
home depot spokeswoman kathryn gallagher said she could not comment on pending litigation.
the lawsuit said after about 15 minutes, store officials called for an ambulance. paramedics unbolted the toilet seat, and while wheeling a "frightened and humiliated" dougherty out of the store, he passed out.
the lawsuit said the toilet seat separated from his skin, leaving abrasions.
"this is not home depot's fault," he said. "but i am blaming them for letting me hang in there and just ignoring me."

a woman is facing permanent damage to her sight after she mistook a bottle of toxic nail glue for eyedrops. paula griffin, 29, squirted the hazardous liquid into her right eye by mistake after waking up with blurred vision. her eye was glued shut for eight hours and was only pried open again when doctors cut off her lashes. miss griffin was warned she could have lost her sight forever and is still waiting to be told if there is any lasting damage. the accident happened when she woke up and reached for a bottle of eyedrops in a bathroom cupboard. but in her confused state she grabbed an identical-sized bottle of nail glue that was next to it. the glue is used by beauty professionals to fix false nails and carries a toxic symbol and a warning that it bonds skin within seconds. paula, from bournemouth, dorset, said: "i was still really tired and i couldn't see very well, so i stumbled into the bathroom and picked the bottle off the shelf. "as soon as i squeezed it, i knew something was wrong. "i managed to stop it hitting the centre of the eye, and doctors told me later that it saved me from permanent damage. "it was agonising. it was burning so much it was my natural instinct to shut my eye. "but as soon as i did, my eyelashes stuck fast together and i couldn't open my eye again." miss griffin, who also runs her own fancy dress business, said: "i would hate people to think i'm just some dumb blonde, because i'm not. "it was a nasty accident, and it could have happened to anyone but i won't be putting the bottles anywhere near each other again, that's for sure." dr simon bell, consultant in emergency medicine at poole hospital, said: "as long as the glue remains on the outside of the eye, the injury will be extremely painful but will only have superficial or cosmetic damage." source
pasadena, texas (ap) -- pasadena police have a sticky investigation. somebody put glue on the hair of three shoppers in two stores. a 12-year-old girl told khou-tv that she was shopping at a drug store last week when she felt a wad of something "sizzling" in her ponytail. the substance turned out to be glue. the child had to cut off some of her hair to get rid of the mess. managers said another customer had glue sprayed into her hair earlier thursday at the same drug store. pasadena police are investigating a similar incident at a nearby grocery store. assistant chief bud corbett said monday he has never heard of any assault like the glue attacks. so far no arrests. source have any interesting articles you'd like to share? article request thread.

article submitted by gremwood. a man had to be taken to hospital still attached to a steel toilet after super-glue was deliberately smeared on the seat. firefighters were unable to free the man and were forced to remove the entire toilet with the man attached. the 35-year-old was in a public toilet cubicle in brierley hill in the west midlands when he became stuck. he was taken to hospital where doctors had to get into the ambulance before using chemicals to free him. an ambulance service spokesman said: "he appeared to be none the worse for his ordeal other than being understandably somewhat embarrassed." it is thought the glue had been smeared on the toilet seat by a prankster. an ambulance crew and a rapid response vehicle attended the scene just before midday but they were unable to free the man. "with the help of a local authority and the fire and rescue service, the man was removed from the cubicle still attached to the stainless steel toilet," the spokesman said. the toilet was later taken back to the public convenience and re-installed. source

a washington dog owner says she's been crying ever since she discovered that a dog groomer cut off her dog's ear and then super-glued it back on. "and i saw the ear float away, and it freaked me out," said dog owner anni sheriffius. sheriffius couldn't believe what she was seeing. she was trying to wash off what she thought was dirt on her dog jasmine's ear, when the ear fell off. sheriffius rushed her dog to the veterinarian to learn that the dog's ear had been cut off by a dog groomer and glued back on. jasmine, a shih tzu, had to undergo treatment for an infection. sheriffius said she still has the ear in a plastic bag, and has been crying for weeks at the thought of someone hurting her dog. pierce county sheriff's investigators are looking into possible criminal charges against the unlicensed dog groomer.
