edward macmahon, defense attorney for convicted 9/11 terrorist zacarias moussaoui, describes the courtroom at gitmo, which claims to be designed to prevent unwanted information from leaking to the public. "guantánamo is the perfect place to actually bury all of this information," says macmahon, referring to the courtroom's soundproof glass and power kill button.
for 7½ years, lakhdar boumediene was known simply by a number: "10005." in an exclusive interview with abc news, boumediene said the interrogators at gitmo never once asked him about this alleged plot, which he denied playing any part it. boumediene described as a 7½ year nightmare, he is now a free man.

yesterday the us supreme court started hearing the case on the legality of military tribunals at guantanamo.
supreme court justice scalia earlier made headlines with his take on the rights of the detainees held at guantanamo. he was asked to excuse himself, but so far has refused.
mr. katyal, lawyer for osama bin laden’s driver, salim ahmed hamdan, said that the tribunals are illegal. “this is a [tribunal] that is literally unburdened by the laws, constitution and treaties of the united states,” according to mr. katyal.
for a long time, detainees at guantanamo were refused basic rights, such as the right to contact a lawyer, or even knowing what the charges against them were. many have been denied the right to contact their family to let them know where they were. detainees on hunger strike, protesting their imprisonment, were denied the right to bodily integrity and force-fed. others have reported being tortured.
so far, of the 500 detainees at guantanamo, only 10 have been charged.
the case is seen as a challenge of president bush’s powers to fight terrorism the way he sees fit, ignoring us and international laws. the white house has tried to get the supreme court to drop the case, so far without success.
the hearing could put a stop to plans by the bush administration to hold military tribunals at guantanamo.
the entire mess is playing into the hands of the terrorists, who now use guantanamo bay as a recruiting tool. so what would fox’s bill o’reilly do to fix the problem? kill ‘em all. atta boy, fox news! o'reilly is the terrorist striking fear into the hearts of his viewing audience.
