a woman with a gigantic tumour growing from her thigh, two metres long and weighing over a hundred kilos, is unable to move from her bed even as the tumour slowly rots and festers. the woman (48) began feeling a pain in her left leg, which grew to become a gigantic sarcoma, now so large as to preclude movement and requiring her to eat several times her normal diet to fuel its inexorable growth. parts of the growth have hardened or festered, resulting in the variety of hues visible. the tumour started growing early in her life, at around 17-18, and gradually grew, so much so that in 1983 she finally managed to have it amputated. however, barely a year had passed before it returned, growing rapidly to the size of a fist. seeing that it appeared to have stopped growing, and having little cash to pay medical expense, she simply ignored it.
all was quiet until three years ago, when it suddenly began growing again. soon she could not rise from her bed, such was its grotesque bulk. the growth impeded circulation to her leg, and soon it began to fester. according to her husband, she is small and frail, weighing only 35kg, yet she eats twice as much as her husband, all to nourish her thriving tumour. she lacks even the money for a diagnosis however, so precise details are lacking. donations from friends and family, along with the labours of her husband, are all that keep her fed. with surgery estimated to cost at least $30,000, they have no chance of accumulating the funds. using the internet they have begun to accumulate some funds, but are a long way off an operation… at over a hundred kilos the tumour may very well be the world’s largest, with previous gigantic growths apparently “only” managing 50kg or so.

a new dinosaur species, one of the largest known carnivorous dinosaurs, has been discovered in the fossil-rich patagonia region of argentina, scientists said monday.
paleontologists reported that they had found the fossils of seven to nine individuals of a species they are naming mapusaurus roseae, which is estimated to have lived about 100 million years ago. the discovery suggests the previously unknown animal may have lived and hunted in groups.
dr. philip j. currie of the university of alberta in edmonton, co-leader of the excavations, said in a statement: "the presence of so many animals in one quarry suggests that they were living together in a pack at the time leading up to their catastrophic death."
an analysis of the bones showed one adult exceeded 12 meters in length, slightly larger than specimens of both its close relatives - giganotosaurus and tyrannosaurus rex, the researchers reported.
the fossils were excavated over five years, beginning in 1995, before scientists realized they were dealing with a new species of giant carnivores, members of the broader meat-eating carcharodontosaurids.
currie said that pack hunting may have allowed mapusaurus to prey on the biggest known dinosaur, argentinosaurus, a 38-meter-long plant-eater.
"mapusaurus" comes from the word for "earth" in the language of the mapuche tribe of western patagonia, while "roseae" refers both to the rose-colored rock that yielded the specimens and to the name of a sponsor of the excavations.

this apparently is the world record biggest land party.
taken from http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap070829.html have you ever seen a gigantic jet? they are extremely rare but tremendously powerful. gigantic jets are a newly discovered type of lightning discharge between some thunderstorms and the earth's ionosphere high above them. the gigantic jet, at the lower left, traversed perhaps 70 kilometers in just under one second.
god`s apology.
a huge turtle on the beach.
