the major bugs to do with spikedhumor's upload system have been fixed.

we had a problem with the upload system frequently dropping the recently submitted content, but everything should be back to normal now. please inform of us of any further problems that you're having, if any.

there's 1 bug to do with the firefox browser. the upload status may not appear to be active (even though it is) - your upload should still work though, as long as you're patient.

sorry for any inconvenience the upload system bugs may have caused you.
on the bright side, the major bug is fixed and we'll be in perfect operation once the small bugs are taken care of.

other news: we will soon have an ajax-based voting system for articles.

some users have been having problems when uploading content to spiked (large files especially). if uploads have stopped responding for you or your family/friends recently, let it be known that we have fixed the problem.

no need to be alarmed, since we have fully resolved the issue. we have been doing hefty tests all day which involve uploading very big files until they're complete.

as an added bonus, we have uncapped the bandwidth so there should not be very much buffering, if any. the new linux cluster (server system) is currently being set up and optimized; we're hoping to have it operational by the end of this week, to bring you the spiked entertainment you deserve!

these improvements will fix all technical issues you may have been having with the spikedhumor web site. thank you for your patience.

groom fixes teeth to marry dentist's daughter

an isle of wight man was told to get his teeth fixed before a dentist would let him marry his daughter.

gordon taylor, 32, was told he must have a series of fillings and cosmetic surgery before he could walk down the aisle with sarah lewis, 26.

her father, dr philip lewis, even made him wear a 'snap-on smile' cosmetic denture for the wedding in cowes.

"i didn't mean to neglect my teeth, i guess it was just the lifestyle i was leading," said mr taylor.

"when i met sarah, i guess her family noticed them more than most because her father is a dentist."

dr lewis, 56, admitted he was horrified by the sight of his future son-in-law's teeth.

"the thought of my daughter walking down the aisle to gordon with his teeth the way they were was not a good one," he said.

sarah's mother joy, who works as a receptionist at dr lewis's surgery, added: "gordon is a lovely chap but he had awful teeth, really awful teeth."

and his bride said she was thrilled mr taylor had agreed to undergo the dental work to win her hand.

"i will always love him regardless but i know the finished look will certainly please him as well as our family and friends," she said.

a husband is at home watching a football game when his wife interrupts, "honey, could you fix the light in the hallway? it's been flickering for weeks now."

he looks at her and says angrily, "fix the light? now? does it look like i have a g.e. logo printed on my forehead? i don't think so."

"well, then could you fix the fridge door? it won't close right."

to which he replied, "fix the fridge door? does it look like i have westinghouse written on my forehead? i don't think so."

"fine," she says, "then could you at least fix the steps to the front door? they're about to break."

"i'm not a damn carpenter and i don't want to fix the steps," he says. "does it look like i have ace hardware written on my forehead? i don't think so. i've had enough of you. i'm going to the bar!"

so he goes to the bar and drinks for a couple hours. he starts to feel guilty about how he treated his wife, and decides to go home and help out. as he walks into the house, he notices the steps are already fixed. as he enters the house, he sees the hall light is working. as he goes to get a beer, he notices the fridge door is fixed. "honey, how'd this all get fixed?"

she said, "well, when you left, i sat outside and cried. just then a nice young man asked me what was wrong, and i told him. he offered to do all the repairs, and all i had to do was either sleep with him or bake him a cake."

he said, "so, what kind of cake did you bake him?"

she replied, "hellooooo... do you see betty crocker written on my forehead?"

spirits soar as the international space station's only toilet is repaired. cosmonaut-plumber oleg kononenko tackled the critical job of fixing the sole toilet aboard the international space station, with apparently successful results after a two-and-a-half hour maintenance call. kononenko, the station's lead flight engineer, replaced a pump needed to filter urine so the waste can be properly processed. the russian-made toilet has been working only intermittently for about 10 days, requiring time-consuming manual flushes four to five times a day.

berlin (reuters) - a german who tried to fix his leaky air mattress blew up his apartment instead, the fire brigade in the western city of duesseldorf said wednesday.

the 45-year-old man used tire repair solvent to plug a hole in his airbed and left it overnight.

but it blew up when he went to inflate it the next day. "a spark from the electric air pump ignited it," a fire brigade spokesman said.

the blast pushed his living room wall into the building's stairwell and caused extensive damage to walls, windows and furniture.

fire fighters evacuated the 12-apartment building and a neighboring housing block while they checked for structural damage.

the man suffered burns on his arms, while a three-year-old girl suffered first degree burns.

duct tape suggested as quick-fix to spacewalking problem

even in space, a little duct tape may work wonders.

astronaut piers sellers suggested using some of the multipurpose sticky material to fix a safety-jet backpack used during spacewalks after it almost came loose from him while he repaired the international space station.

"right now, is there some kind of tape fix that you guys could think about that would be helpful?" sellers asked mission control tuesday morning, a day after the propulsive backpack started to come loose during his spacewalk with astronaut mike fossum.

fossum had to tether the device to sellers to keep it from flying away.

the jet backpack, nicknamed safer, is worn by every astronaut during a spacewalk. it allows an astronaut to propel himself or herself to safety in an emergency, for instance if a tether or foot restraint holding the astronaut in place breaks.

the two connecting devices of sellers' backpack attachment, designed to be used if an astronaut floats free, loosened at different times, but he was never in danger of losing it, nasa officials said.

sellers and fossum were to make three spacewalks during space shuttle discovery's 13-day mission to the space station, which ends next monday.

during the second spacewalk on monday, the spacewalkers replaced a cable reel to a rail car needed to move large pieces around the space station and installed a pump compartment for the complex's cooling system.

discovery pilot mark kelly, who helped choreograph the spacewalk from inside the space station, told houston he thinks the latches on sellers' backpack came undone inside the shuttle's crowded payload bay.

"it's surprising that it did happen, but he's bumping a lot around in there," kelly said tuesday.

for wednesday's spacewalk, the astronauts planned to test whether a sealant can be used to repair damaged pieces of the space shuttle's thermal protection system. the technique was developed to make sure there's never a repeat of the columbia accident that killed seven astronauts in 2003.

the six astronauts of discovery, along with the three space station crew members, planned to spend most of tuesday packing up science experiments, trash and unneeded equipment to take back to earth. they awoke to a recording of smash mouth's "all star" chosen by the family of astronaut lisa nowak.
