"urine is a mess because urine is full of solids," mr lewis said. those solids clog the venting system for dumping urine which meant keeping the waste disposal system clear is "really a challenge," he added. nasa has a long-standing tradition of collecting samples from its workers to help design better space toilets because "you can't make fake urine," mr lewis said. the memo seeking daily contributions from july 21 to july 31, contains detailed instructions for participants, but was not meant to go public. it requests donors do not drink too much to encourage urination, warning that "you are not encouraged to over-hydrate as this could dilute the urine we collect". "unlike in the doctor's office, you do not need to worry about starting collection midstream," the memo states. "our testing will be much more accurate if you collect as much of the entire urination as possible including the beginning." it also calls for urine to be fresh, no more than an hour old. "we suggest that morning urine be collected at home, but not night-time urine," the memo states. source

a domestic abuse charity has refused a donation from hairdressers who posed for a nude calendar, claiming that accepting the money would be akin to supporting the sex trade. scottish women's aid said it could not support the fundraising efforts of the 11 women from alloa, clackmannanshire, because they had posed semi-naked. but morag hill and katherine cram, who own the hairdressing firm and were the driving force behind the calendar, said they were "deeply offended" by the charity's comments. ms hill was spurred on by the hugely successful 2003 film calendar girls, starring julie walters and dame helen mirren, after suffering domestic abuse for eight years. she said: "when i phoned scottish women's aid to tell them that we had a calendar and i needed to know how we could get the cash to them, the woman on the end of the phone said they would not be associated with it. "she said that they did not support women taking their clothes off to raise money and that they were a feminist movement. "it made me feel really angry. out of the 11 women who took part in this calendar, five have suffered domestic abuse and they wanted to do something to help other victims. "we are not members of the sex industry, we are just trying to help." the 36-year-old, who is now happily married, suffered domestic abuse from a previous partner until 2006. she had to go through months of counselling to rebuild her confidence. ms hill and her colleagues have so far raised £600 and are aiming to generate 2,000 orders for their calendar. the women's institute women raised more than £2million for leukaemia research by posing nude. since their 2000 calendar, numerous causes have taken part in similar ventures as a way of raising funds, jacqui kelly, a spokeswoman for scottish women's aid, said: "we are a feminist organisation and of course we are happy that these woman feel empowered by what they are doing. "but we are opposed to the sex industry and we have an issue with women removing clothes. "a calendar of naked women will sell well and we as an organisation are not comfortable with this." source
