aka "the lives of others." clip from the brilliant 2006 german movie about "east berlin in 1984, and an agent of the secret police conducting surveillance on a writer". the movie won an oscar for best foreign language film of the year. in this scene a joke is made about erich honecker the east german leader. (the second joke is lost in translation, but here's some info from imdb.com: the punchline of the joke that grubitz tells in the cafeteria, about there being no difference between honecker and a telephone, is a play on the words 'aufhängen' and 'neuwählen'. in terms of a telephone it means hang up and redial, respectively. in terms of politics it means hang somebody and elect someone new.)
