dan had a new job; on his first day his manager gave him some pearls of wisdom to help him with his customer service. dan when you sell an item strike up some conversation as to what they might be using the product for then suggest some accessories to go with it, for example if a man purchases a beer offer him some munchies and a dvd.

all was going well until a large lady walked along with a bed spread.

"that’s a nice bed spread madam you will not have to worry about cum stains on that one"

the lady slightly shocked but flattered replies

"why is that because the sheets are dark and will stop the stains showing"

"no madam you are one fat ugly bastard, might i suggest the paper bags we have here and the diet pills we have in the pharmacy"

indeed, an award should go to the air malta gate attendant at luqa airport: some months ago for being customer focused, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. a crowded malta-london flight was cancelled. a single attendant was re-booking a long line of inconvenienced travellers.

suddenly an angry passenger pushed his way to the desk. he slapped his ticket down on the counter and said, "i have to be on this flight and it has to be first class".

the attendant replied, "i'm sorry sir. i'll be happy to try to help you, but i've got to help these people first, and i'm sure we'll be able to work something out."

the passenger was unimpressed. he asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "do you have any idea who i am?"

without hesitating, the attendant smiled and grabbed her public address microphone: may i have your attention please, may i have your attention please," she began - her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "we have a passenger here at gate14 who does not know who he is. if anyone can help him find his identity, please come to gate 14."

with the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the attendant, gritted his teeth and said, "f... you!"

without flinching, she smiled and said, "i'm sorry, sir, but you'll have to get in line for that too."

pissed customer starts fire in wal-mart

a man who was angry he was not allowed to return items to a local wal-mart went to the men’s department and set three racks of clothes ablaze, according to a manatee sheriff’s report.

the fire ruined thousands of dollars of merchandise and caused extensive damage to the store in the 2900 block of 53rd avenue east in east manatee county around 4 p.m. thursday.

after the fire was discovered, employees saw a man flee the store in a tan pick-up, and other wal-mart stores in the area were notified to watch out for him.

two hours later, deputies were called to the wal-mart near lockwood ridge road and university parkway, where they arrested a man who fit the arsonist’s description.

phillip r. wright, 41, of monroe, louisiana was arrested on an arson charge in the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

no one was injured in the fire, the report said.

customer beaten to death by wal-mart employees

beijing (ap) - two employees of a wal-mart store in eastern china were arrested after a woman was beaten outside the store on suspicion of being a shoplifter and died, a state-owned newspaper reported tuesday.

the china daily said yu xiaochun died 500 yards (meters) from the store in jingdezhen, jiangxi province.

local police said in a notice posted on their web site that the 37-year old yu was going home aug. 30 when she was surrounded by five wal-mart employees - four men and one woman, all in their 20s - who accused her of shoplifting.

the police report said one of the men requested a receipt. but after yu handed it over, she took it back, saying no one was wearing a wal-mart uniform and she didn't believe they worked there.

the report said they fought and yu fell to the ground and was taken to a hospital, where she died sept. 2.

a spokeswoman for wal-mart in china, vivi mou, said in an e-mailed statement to the associated press that "an incident occurred" between two security associates and a female visitor on aug. 30, but the cause of death is still being investigated.

the company is cooperating with authorities and extends its condolences to the woman's family, the statement said.

two employees, a man surnamed liu and a man surnamed yu, were detained, the police statement said. it did not give details about the other three.

the city police headquarters referred questions to the district police station, which referred them to the criminal department, where no one answered the phone.

cabbie lets customers pick prices

essex, vt. -- a vermont man who started his own taxi company, with himself as the sole driver, said he is making a profit by letting his customers pick their own prices.

eric hagen, 46, of essex, said the idea for recession ride taxi came to him while he was watching financial news in june, the burlington (vt.) free press reported.

"i hadn't thought about it before," he said. "i was watching cnbc -- the financial station -- and it suddenly hit me: everybody's always hearing, 'this is what your mortgage is going to be; this is what your car payment's going to be.' people want to get away from that."

hagen, who also works full-time for the american red cross in burlington, said he obtained a cab driver's license and insurance, but the first couple weeks garnered more questions about the sign in his window -- "pay what you want!" -- than fares.

"people were coming up to me in parking lots and asking, 'is this for real?' i'd tell them, 'this is for real.' and i'd give them a card," he said.

"after two weeks, business really started picking up," hagen said.

"nobody has shortchanged me yet," he said. "nobody's stiffed me. i've decided to empower the customer; they like the fact they can decide."

pasadena, texas (ap) -- pasadena police have a sticky investigation. somebody put glue on the hair of three shoppers in two stores.

a 12-year-old girl told khou-tv that she was shopping at a drug store last week when she felt a wad of something "sizzling" in her ponytail. the substance turned out to be glue.

the child had to cut off some of her hair to get rid of the mess.

managers said another customer had glue sprayed into her hair earlier thursday at the same drug store.

pasadena police are investigating a similar incident at a nearby grocery store.

assistant chief bud corbett said monday he has never heard of any assault like the glue attacks.

so far no arrests.
