hermantown, minn. -- police in minnesota said a man struck an employee with a backhoe because he did not believe the worker was performing his duties properly. investigators said michael billman, co-owner of billman's home center in hermantown, minn., was in the excavator at a construction site wednesday and began arguing with an employee who was working in a trench, kqds-tv, duluth, minn., reported. "mr. billman was not believing that the victim was doing his job properly, basically," hermantown police sgt. mark gunderson said. gunderson billman swung the backhoe and struck the worker, who was taken to st. mary's hospital with several bruises but no broken bones. billman, who was charged with second-degree assault, told police he had only intended to "nudge" the worker with the backhoe to get his attention. investigators said billman admitted he believed his actions were stupid. source
a 19-month-old girl died after her father accidentally ran over her with a backhoe as he was clearing brush southeast of los osos on saturday afternoon, authorities said. the accident occurred around 4:10 p.m. as wayne dibble was clearing the grassy area in front of his motor home on clark valley road, according to chp officer jackie diaz.
suddenly, his young daughter darted out of the home about 15 feet away, diaz said. "she came shooting out of the trailer door," diaz said. "mom saw her through the kitchen window and yelled, 'stop.' " but dibble couldn't stop in time.
mckensi dibble was crushed beneath the vehicle's back wheel, diaz said. wayne dibble and his wife, jennifer fidler, called 911. then they put the little girl in their car and met the ambulance about a quarter-mile from los osos valley road.
members of the cal poly polo team practicing nearby watched as emergency medics treated mckensi.
the young girl was pronounced dead at sierra vista regional medical center at 4:45 p.m..
both the chp and the sheriff's department are investigating the incident, which took place in the 3000 block of clark valley road. an autopsy could be scheduled for early this week, sheriff's sgt. rex reece said.
