sydney (reuters) - australian animal welfare authorities launched a nationwide hunt on thursday for a man filmed punching and kicking a kangaroo unconscious. the video, which shows the man using kickboxing-style attacks on the kangaroo as his friend laughs while filming, was sent to the rspca (royal society for the prevention of cruelty to animals) in western australia state. in one scene the man pulls the kangaroo towards him and uses his knee to hit the animal's chest and the man punches the kangaroo's face as the animal struggles to remain standing. a final punch knocks the kangaroo to the ground where it appears to lay unconscious. it is unclear whether the attack resulted in the death of the animal, which authorities believe was injured, possibly in a car accident. the rspca said it had launched a nationwide appeal to catch the men responsible for the attack and video. "we are appealing to every media outlet in australia to help us track down the cowards behind the vicious attack on this kangaroo," rspca spokesman richard barry told reporters. "thankfully this sickening footage has now been removed from the website where it was first seen. the next stage is to ensure that those responsible for this film are brought to justice," said barry. "only a coward would attack an injured and obviously terrified young animal much smaller than himself. we want these cowards to be caught, charged and prosecuted," he said. source, spiked video
a pizza deliveryman fended off two assailants in st. paul's payne-phalen neighborhood wednesday night — both apparently bent on looting his booty of two large pies. tou mo cha, a driver for eastside checkerboard pizza on payne avenue, showed up with a couple of pizzas — toppings unknown — at a home in the 800 block of rose avenue about 10:45 p.m., according to a st. paul police report. he was met by a 5-foot-5-inch man in the front yard. as cha tried to give him the pizzas, the man sprayed cha in the face with tear gas. a second man, standing about 6 feet tall, ran out from behind the house and charged cha. the deliveryman pulled a letter opener from his pocket and stabbed the taller man in the chest, the report said. both men ran east on rose avenue, without the pizzas. cha called police but refused medical attention. the police report said that because his only injury was from a chemical spray, he did not require medical care. a man who answered the phone thursday afternoon at eastside checkerboard but declined to be identified said cha was "pretty shook up" and was taking a couple of days off. the order appeared to be a setup, the man said, meant to lure a driver to a robbery. but cha wouldn't have it. hyderabad, india — two men attacked an 80-year-old, self-proclaimed holy man in southern india and chopped off his right leg, apparently believing it had magical powers, police said thursday. yanadi kondaiah, who claimed that those who touched his leg would be cured of illness or have wishes granted, was hospitalized in serious condition after the attack tuesday, said r. ravindranath reddy, a senior police officer. "we are looking for the miscreants as well as the leg," reddy told the associated press by telephone from the chittoor district, a remote area 340 miles south of hyderabad, the capital of andhra pradesh state.
