united states president george w. bush delievers his required yearly 'state of the union address' for the year 2006.
article submitted by master911. the world will run out of internet addresses by 2010, with only 700 million separate addresses remaining for allocation out of the 4.3 billion available on the present network. every device that connects to the internet needs a separate address, and 30 years ago web designers assumed four billion would be ample, the australian reports. now all internet users must move to an upgraded platform - called internet protocol version 6 - to access the 340 trillion-trillion-trillion new addresses needed to connect not only billions of new users but also the trillions of sensor devices that will require networking as technology takes greater control of people's lives. "ipv6 provides more addresses in cyberspace than there are grains of sands on the world's beaches," said viviane reding, eu commissioner for the information society. geoff huston, chief scientist of the asia pacific network information centre, which manages address allocation within the region, said he hovered between calling the situation a challenge or a crisis. a shortfall in addresses would stifle networking of small and simple devices for energy management for lighting, intelligent building systems and remote-control sensors. the growing demand for ip addresses and the cost and technical difficulties involved in shifting to ipv6 are under discussion at the oecd ministerial meeting on the future of the internet economy in seoul this week, attended by communications minister stephen conroy. mr huston said deferring investment in the shift to ipv6 increased the risk of negative outcomes and rising costs. source
tokyo — when yosuke the parrot flew out of his cage and got lost, he did exactly what he had been taught — recite his name and address to a stranger willing to help. police rescued the african grey parrot two weeks ago from a neighbor's roof in the city of nagareyama, near tokyo. after spending a night at the station, he was transferred to a nearby veterinary hospital while police searched for clues, local policeman shinjiro uemura said. he kept mum with the cops, but began chatting after a few days with the vet. "i'm mr. yosuke nakamura," the bird told the veterinarian, according to uemura. the parrot also provided his full home address, down to the street number, and even entertained the hospital staff by singing songs. "we checked the address, and what do you know, a nakamura family really lived there. so we told them we've found yosuke," uemura said. the nakamura family told police they had been teaching the bird its name and address for about two years. but yosuke apparently wasn't keen on opening up to police officials. "i tried to be friendly and talked to him, but he completely ignored me," uemura said. source gotta love iago.
police investigating a bank robbery didn't have to look far for a suspect: a note passed to the teller announcing the holdup had the robber's address on the back.
"i don't think anyone realized what was on the other side," detective sgt. joseph loggia said friday.
charmaine williams stein, 30, of riverhead, was arraigned thursday in suffolk county court on one count of grand larceny, accused of holding up chase bank on june 10 and making off with $22,000.
detectives determined that bank teller john mueller was stein's accomplice, loggia said. mueller, of coram, was charged with grand larceny earlier this month.
the note demanding money was on a bulk mail advertisement that had stein's address on the back, the detective said. stein, who was believed to have been out of town for several weeks, was arrested wednesday night.
she was being held on $20,000 bail.

you knew keith olbermann was going to comment after bush's speech last night. during bush's speech, he announced a new policy to ensure iraqi freedom. it is surprising to see olbermann speak in back to back shows, but the situation obviously warranted it.

lesson to be learned from typing the wrong email address: a minneapolis couple decided to go to florida to thaw out during a particularly icy winter. they planned to stay at the same hotel where they spent their honeymoon 20 years before. because of their hectic schedules, it was difficult to coordinate their travel schedules. so, the husband left minneapolis and flew to florida on friday, and his wife was flying down the following day. the husband checked into the hotel, and unlike years ago, there was a computer in his room, and he decided to send an email to his wife. however, he accidentally left out one letter in her email address, and without noticing his error, sent the email to the wrong address. meanwhile...somewhere in houston ... a widow had just returned home from her husband's funeral. he was a minister who was called home to glory after suffering a heart attack. the widow decided to check her email, expecting messages from relatives and friends. after reading the first message, she screamed and then fainted. the widow's son rushed into the room, found his mother on the floor, and then glanced up and saw the computer screen which read: to: my loving wife date: friday, october 13, 2004 subject: i have arrived! dearest love: i know you are surprised to hear from me. they have computers here now, and you are allowed to send email to your loved ones. i have just arrived and have been checked in. i see that everything has been prepared for your arrival tomorrow, and look forward to seeing you then. hope your journey is as uneventful as mine was. ps ........ sure is freaking hot down here!!
