the hustlers trick atm's into giving them free money.
at approximately 3 pm, tuesday, july 2, a 2008 dodge ram 2500, pulling a new travel trailer, hit the corner of the texas state bank drive-in on tenaha street, causing the complete awning to come to the ground. luckily, the driver of the dodge, mickey miller, of garrison and his 10 year old son were able to exit their vehicle uninjured. according to miller he was circling the bank to park on the other side when the corner of his travel trailer caught the corner of the bank awning. next thing he heard was a rumble as the awning started falling against his driver's side door. somehow he was able to unbuckle the seat beat and exit the other side of his truck as it was falling.
i guess the suicide booth from futurama is almost here. either that or a chinese version of skynet exists.

i rode home with a female coworker about five years ago. i asked her to wait for me while i used the atm machine. she asked if i trusted "those people." "people *who*?" i asked? she said, "the atm operates by having a person inside the box. every time you put in your card, he takes it, looks at it, and checks his paper files and folders for your account number. here he can find your pin and check the balance. this person then asks you to enter your pin, cross checks it, and if all matches, you can proceed. if not, he keeps your card. "if you ask for a statement, he types it from his books and you get the printout. if you ask for a withdrawal, he checks the balance and any restrictions, and if all is ok, gives you the amount. he *then* calls all of the other branches and atms, tells them how much you've withdrawn, so they can update *their* books. "wonder where they find all those little people at??" this person with her atm theory might have been misinformed...
man suspected of kidnapping woman from wyoming home leaves his atm card at scene. deputies say a man suspected of kidnapping a woman used an atm card with his name on it to pop open a lock at her wyoming home, and then left the card behind. sweetwater county authorities say 20-year-old martin joseph adams was arrested last week on suspicion of kidnapping, battery and burglary. authorities say the woman and her boyfriend were sleeping when adams allegedly broke in, fought with the man and then hoisted the screaming woman onto his shoulder and left. investigators say they tracked adams to his residence where they found him and the woman, who had suffered severe bruises. source have any interesting articles you'd like to share? article request thread.

one of darwin's worst kept secrets, a malfunctioning cash machine, has been returned to normal service.
the automatic teller machine (atm) made the caltex service station in darwin's rural area a popular stop yesterday.
an anonymous caller to the abc this morning says the word got around berrimah quickly that a commonwealth bank machine at the service station was giving out $50 bills instead of $20 bills.
"if you withdrew $100 you got two 50s. but if you'd have withdrew $80, instead of getting four 20s, you got four 50s," the caller said.
the bank is investigating and says it is possible at least 100 customers got more than they bargained for.
the bank's brian fitzgerald says the problem was most likely due to human error.
"the $50 notes and the $20 notes are in different cannisters and occasionally the people that fill the machines up get the canisters mixed up and put a $50 canister into a $29 slot," he said.
"we're investigating the actual cause at berrimah but we believe that may be the case in this instance."
the bank is warning people they will have to give back extra money dispensed from the atm.
"the automatic teller machines are all online and we have a record of every transaction, every customer, how many notes were dispensed and we will start contacting those customers that used the machine today seeking reimbursement of the additional funds that they have received," mr fitzgerald said.
police are looking for a man who broke the bank - literally.
last month, a man reprogrammed an automated teller machine at a gas station on lynnhaven parkway to spit out four times as much money as it should.
he then made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.
no one noticed until nine days later, when a customer told the clerk at a crown gas station that the machine was disbursing more money than it should. police are now investigating the incident as fraud.
