BBC Horizon - An Experiment to Save the ...

In March 2002, the scientific world was rocked by some astonishing news: a distinguished US government scientist claimed he had made nuclear fusion out of sound waves in his laboratory. Rusi Taleyarkhan`s breakthrough was such important news because nuclear fusion is one of the most difficult scientific processes, and also one of the most coveted. It could solve all of our energy problems for ever. In principle, sufficient fuel exists on earth to provide clean, pollution-free energy for billions of people for millions of years.

unlimited clean energy doesn`t exist since you have to reboot the cycle of nuclear fusion everytime it de-stabalizes by the random error factor that everything is fated on. This technology is only going to suck our water supply dry, exactly like the fuel of today...

But gotta love those Horizon episodes. They manage to keep us on the edge into wanting to know more about the subject. Truly amazing.

If everything is not exact then the failure of this experimental replication is not surprising.
Also, the fact that Telyackin(SIC) didn`t want to participate should be a red flag.
But I agree with Onisama (lord demon?(^o^)) on one count.. this technology could eventually reduce Earth to desert planet, not unlike Mars.

a desert planet with far too much helium.

also, ill bet this guy knows its not fusion, but also knows hes almost done a good enough job to convince some people it is. he has changed careers now, physicist to snake-oilsman.

it would never dry the planet. The energy contained in just a small sample of deuterium would be enough for a very long time. For example in nuclear fission a small amount of Uranium 235 is capable of producing enormous amounts of energy with respects to its size. Just to put it in context, Nuclear fusion is capable of producing way more energy than fission, just look at how long stars last.

Actually deuterium water (technically D2O) would produce a small quantity of helium (He) and oxygen (O2). The helium is light enough to float back into space and get caught by solar winds. Leaving us with a excess of O2.

So yes in 1 billion years we will probably all die from oxydation! But cheap unlimited energy until then! What a hell of a ride that will be.

^we`ll die from hyper flammation for each lightning that`s hits us down cuz of the excess of O2...

@nikitomassini - Stars doesn`t last forever and we`re far from reaching that level... Besides, once water enters the same level of market as fuel, the same greedy problem as fuel will start again. Otherwise, why are we still stuck with the fuel problem? The big corporations doesn`t want an everlasting product but a product that can sell like crazy. By the time we realize that mistake, it`ll be too late...
